I was just wondering if anyone knows a good spot to catch some smallies from shore in the metro area? What should i be using to catch these smallies. Any info would be great thanks.

Well the only place as of now you can fish for them is Pool 2 and Pool 4 of the sippi. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but is Pool 3 all the way down to the border open all year? To fish not to keep.

Any ways, if you live in the cities Pool 2 is your best bet. Find a nice eddy and toss out a minnow. You'll get sheephead, smallies, eyes, sauger, and maybe a pike. You never know what you're going to catch in a river. Ah yes don't forget about the catfish.

Good luck and welcome to the best fishing site! I hope I gave you some help.

If you want to be bass fishing right now, you are limited to Pool 2 & 4. You can try pool 2, but despite whatever one says about pool 2 being good for smallies, I've never caught any down there. It seems really heavily pressured and the smallie population doesn't seem to be a strong as the walleye population. I still have some spots to check out down there come summer, but for now, it just hasn't produced. If you want to check out some shore spots, head to the minnehaha creek inlet all the way up to the dam or try fort snelling park (never been there, but heard it is good).

Come summer time is a different story. Basically you can fish anywhere from downtown mpls up to st. cloud and have some good luck. Look for parks and areas along the mississippi!

Also remember that Pool 2 is catch and release only for the following: Walleyes, Saugers, SM Bass and LM Bass.

I wanna get down there to some day soon since my boat is land locked for the time being.

BigMike, what's going on this Sat??

Ebass you were reading my mind... I just got done posting on the 'sippi North thread that we need to hit pool 2 sometime soon! Let me look into Saturday. May be an option, have to check with the wifey! I know I have some obligations from the mid-afternoon on, but maybe able to do the morning to 1 - maybe 2ish. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Basically take hwy 55 N (aka Hiawatha) off of HWY 62 north end of the airport and on the east side (right side) of 55 you will see Minnehaha Falls park. Park around the middle park lots and take the stairs down the cliffs to the inlet. Hard to miss. Good luck, this shore spot gets really busy at times...remember to try a bunch of different spots. If no fish for 30 minutes, keep moving. There is a lot of shore cover and current seams to work from shore, don't limit yourself.

OK Big Mike, let me know. Sat AM should work. I have dump to do as well. Like get ready for moving and the T-wolves play in the first round of the playoffs. I got my tax returns and should be bringing my merc in to get fixed.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
