Gas vs. Electric Golf Cart

lawman

Question

I am looking for a used golf cart to use at our very hilly campground. I like the quiet of the electric carts but I know the batteries are expensive when you need new ones. The electric carts seem to have more pep....Opinions?

That is a call you have to make. The gas ones aren't a whole lot louder than an electric, and imho have more torque than an electric. But of course, you will need to always run and get gas depending on how much you use it. Electrics are much more convenient, but like you said, you have to buy batteries every 5 years or so. I think when we bought some trojan ones for my dad's cart (that he uses to golf) it was in the $700 range. Nearly as much as we paid for the cart itself.

There are a couple good golf cart forums, I would go check them out to see what they say. I know many of them are converting them in to "off road" type of hunting rigs, and most go gas.

Would have to think gas would have some more snort despite what the electric manufacturers are claiming. Am personally, fully incapable of maintaining any type of gas power equipment though, and go electric whenever possible. Would think for my skill set type, it would at least be a wash replacing the battery versus paying someone else to maintain the gas unit for 7 years. Regardless, love it, and as tsbrewers mentioned they are not just for golfing anymore. Some knobbies and dash mounted lowrance with a chip makes first ice very nice........

Electric carts are very very nice, their also very expensive to fix and or modify if your into that. I own a few gas carts and they have plenty of torque to go up hills and even pull small boats out of the lake. If you go with gas get a twin cylinder 4-stroke, their very reliable.
