The Jeep again!

OK, I got the drain fixed on the air box in the cab, but this morning I turned the heat on to defrost the windshield and nothing! Yippy! Heater core right? I don't think so because soon I could smell warm stinky dust! But here's the thing that has me baffled, It has dual zone controls and only the passenger side was throwing hot air, drivers side was like the a/c was on. Any clues folks? I have never heard of this one! Thanks!

With dual climate control there is usually two blend doors actuators. When in single temp mode, they work in unison. When in dual mode they work independently of each other. One side hot one side cold.

Operate each side from one extreme to the other listen for odd noises, clicking (Ford's are notorious for stripping the internal gears to the actuator) or if you hear the blend door move. This can also be heard by listening to the air flow coming out over the vents. Not sure how to describe it in type.

Also wouldn't hurt to see if you have a cabin air filter and check it.

search for a product called Heater Treater. There is a lot of info on this problem including videos and how to fixes.

The good news is if the blend door is broken the dash comes out in about 2-3 hours for an experienced DIY'er. unless you choose the cut and paste heater treater method. Personally I like to pull the dash and the HVAC assembly. Crack it open, replace the parts, and put it back in. Dont have to worry about leaks, or pieces being held together with tape.

Here's a good one! When I turn the knob for the driver's side to heat it blows warm air out of the passenger side and the driver's side is cold. When I fiddle with the passenger side knob I still only get cold air! Thanks! I'll give everything a look.

I did the the heater treater trick on a Grand Cherokee and it worked very well! I actually made the repair part myself out of aluminum and had the whole thing done in just over an hour. The hardest part is cutting out the panel for access, so if you do it follow the instructions very closely or you risk damaging the heater core when cutting. The original part is like bake-o-lite plastic and gets pretty brittle over time. I think the fix is better than the original setup.
