Sealing holes on transome of alum.

Have a new alum. Ranger RT 178. Came with a locator ( that I didn't want!)that I plan to replace. Course the hole from the lowrance won't match up to my Hum. transducer. Plan to mount a plastic board to the back of the boat, but will have to relocate the speed pick up to this also. With my glass boats I used silicon, but wonder is there something better for alum. ?

3M 5200 Marine Adhesive Sealant. My recommendation for any holes below water line.

Are you looking to fill the holes or mount the new board?

I'd guess for filling the holes you could have a aluminum welder weld them closed.

Or, Put the screws back in with some 5200 in the holes first.

Just fill the holes. Won't weld on a new boat! The board will be place over the old holes.

Was wondering about the JB weld guys have talked about on here to patch holes?

I put the old screws back in with the 5200. I also used the 5200 in the new screw holes for my new board and also put a bunch of it on the back side of the board to seal it up (possibly over kill)

BartMN, you know there is no such thing as "over kill" in this situation.

FINALLY! Promised the "BOSS" I would be a good boy the first month or so after having my hip replaced. It's been five weeks.( of torture with the new boat in the garage!!) Headed to the river (Miss.) for a long weekend and FISHING !!

FYI for this type "fix" a waterproof poprivet dipped in some silicone works great too.
