TylerS
I have my fingers crossed North Dakota won't make the same mistake (I've heard rumors we may be allowed two bonus teal, too): MN DNR Sets Waterfowl Season Dates, Limits Minnesota and three other states in the Mississippi Flyway had the option of including two additional blue-winged teal in the daily bag limit (bonus blue-winged teal).“We thought the risk that green-winged teal might be taken by mistake was too great,” said Paul Telander, DNR wildlife section chief. “In addition, we did not get a chance to survey waterfowl hunters or take any form of public input related to bonus teal. We plan to do that within the next year.”

TylerS
Last year the missisippi flyway allowed three but minn chose two No. No they didn't (from the 2013 presser released by USFWS): Mississippi Flyway (Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin):Ducks: A hunting season is proposed of not more than 60 days between September 21, 2013, and January 26, 2014. The proposed daily bag limit is 6 and may include no more than 4 mallards (2 hens), 3 wood ducks, 1 mottled duck, 2 redheads, 3 scaup, 2 pintails, 1 black duck, and 2 canvasbacks. The proposed daily bag limit of mergansers is 5, only 2 of which may be hooded mergansers. In states that include mergansers in the duck bag limit, the daily limit is the same as the duck bag limit, only 2 which may be hooded mergansers. And from this year's pressers by USFWS:Mississippi Flyway (Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin):Ducks: A hunting season is proposed of not more than 60 days between Sept. 27, 2014, and Jan. 25, 2015. The proposed daily bag limit is 6 and may include no more than 4 mallards (2 hens), 3 wood ducks, 1 mottled duck, 2 redheads, 3 scaup, 2 pintails, 1 black duck, and 1 canvasback. strait-meat
The 2 bonus blue wing teal would have been fun. If that was his reasoning for not giving it to us then why have any kind of a limit on any other ducks that look somewhat similar to each other? That doesn't make sense to me. If you can't tell a blue wing from a green wing you shouldn't be hunting ducks.
rbs
I totally agree with strait-meat! unless you are shooting in the dark you should be able to tell the difference lol
laker1
The duck limit at present is extremely generous. No bonus teal season needed.I think speaking only for Minnesota are seasons are getting a little too generous.
mulefarm
There is no reason Mn shouldn't have a teal season or the 2 bonus teal. I'm sure the Feds have more resources when it come to research, and there recommendations should be followed. From what I have read, hunting and limits have very little, if any, effect on the duck population.
CANOPY SAM
I still see scads of woodies and teal for several weeks after the regular season opener, and I'm in NW Minnesota. Maybe they peel off in another direction rather then heading down thru Minnesota?

If I may add another example: I don't think we should have such an early season on waterfowl b/c hunters could shoot more female mallards b/c they can't tell the difference between them and immature male drakes. Point is, this guys reasoning for not having a bonus teal season doesn't make any sense what so ever and it stinks!Does anyone have his email address--I will write to him. Bryce
Mid 40's all day where I'm working with near freezing predicted. Strong northerly wind. Bet there's a big influx of bonus teal south of I90. Way south. Should still be some straglers for ysad and the rest of us on opener.
