Rear Lower Control Arm Outer Bushings

Took my 02 explorer x l t in for a flat repAir & they asked if I wanted a free inspection done and they said these bushings have excessive play but nothing that is a must fix immediately, estimates anyone?

$50 to $100 for the part (each)

Depending on how they want to tackle replacement there could be a couple of different options for labor. If the pull the knuckle and use a ball joint press to get the bushing in and out than the labor would roughly be 1 to 1.5 hours a side.

It is more common to see the wheel bearings and trailing arms loose on these. I have seen a few with the bushings worn out so it is not impossible.

They say it's a dealer only part & recommend replacing entire arm assembly with bushings

The outer bushing on the lower control arm that the knuckle attatches to is a serviceable part available from your local NAPA for about $60. The inners are not serviceable as far as I know and the lower control arm would need to be replaced.

That I do not now but the Ford guys (Johnbigdog or Scott) may be able to help if they see this.

Fords price is about $360 for the part, and about an hour labor. I know you can get them for about half that price aftermarket.

Would these bushings create a grinding sound if going bad?
