ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is making some changes to its muskie stocking program after zebra mussels were found in a Becker County lake.

The DNR will stock Buck's Mill Pond near Detroit Lakes with 5-inch-long muskie. They should double in size by October and will be moved to lakes. But, because of the zebra mussels in the pond, the DNR will be limited in where it stocks the fish.

Fisheries supervisor Nathan Olson tells Minnesota Public Radio News that the muskie can only go to a handful of lakes where zebra mussels have been found. The DNR stocks about 25,000 muskie in 30 lakes each year.

By comparison, the agency stocks about 3 million walleye in more than 300 lakes.
