humminbird 788 problem

i just bought a used humminbird 788c for my boat. I plugged everything in and it all works execpt i cant get the gps for birds eye view to come up. Everything works on the simulation but not when i switch to the regular mode. On the actual case it says external gps, so do i have to buy a external gps? heres a pic of it. Thanks for the help guys!!

that looks like a first year 788. it does need the external puck for the GPS to work. the GPS puck will run you about $150 to $200 unless you can find a used one that still works and is in good condition.

Ok i got a external gps and solved that problem but now i have another question. It didnt come with any chips but i have a lakemaster chip for my lowrance hds 5, i took that one out and put it in the humminbird and it loaded but the lake details didnt change at all. So so i have to buy a seperate chip for humminbirds or what?

I'm fairly sure you also need go work through the menus to select the card maps instead of the internal maps.

You will need to buy a hummingbird chip for it to work.

if you get the LM chip, make sure you update the 788 from Humminbird's HSOforum
