My current plan is to head out both Saturday and Sunday for mushrooms.....we'll have to see if my plans are changed though. I have yet to find much of anything this summer.

Stick is up north and sent me pics of a football sized king and slightly less than a billion chants....ok ....not that big and many....but if we don't get some rain around here, might have to head north. My year that started as a 10 is barely pushing 5 now....

Heading to the cities for shrooms just seems wrong smile Ethnic restaurants , the new Guthrie, a ball game, or some chamber music ......perhaps. Fully support all those that circumvent the three rivers parks mentality down there, but if it does not rain enough here tomorrow....north it will be wink

Nice find!!!!!

I was down near Rochester for the weekend, and decided to head out in search of smallmouth along the Root River instead of mushrooms in the nearby state park (with my eye firmly fixed for mushrooms, too, of course). I caught two smallmouth and found fewer mushrooms. smile

BUT on the way home I stopped at a few parks and found some "oldies but goodies." A few worms and some dried out spots, but after feeding my mom and dad with my special chantrelle recipe I've got three stacks in the dehydrator running right now.

Man, I love this time of year. It's as good as it gets.

Yeah I did the Lobster hunt on Friday. Then yesterday I took my dad and son out for a pick on our hunting land. Found about 2lbs of Chants and a nice chicken. Was a great time.

Where are you located then, PB? I was just giving a general area report... like, if the Cities is popping out a pile of mushrooms, the areas around there should be too...

Was up north yesterday and found 6 chickens, 2 perfect freshies. I would say the next month will be the best part of the season...

I headed to the eastern part of the state on Saturday to pick with a friend who has been trying unsuccessfully to find his first chanterelles. We looked over some maps and decided on a spot. In 3 hours we had 6 pounds of chants, a dozen or so hedgehogs, and 3 very, very fresh chickens. It was a good time!

I'll be hitting the Brainerd area one or two mornings this coming weekend. It should be getting good up there. It was just too early there a couple weeks ago in the spots I looked, but I did scout out a new area that "should" be awesome!

It has been a great year! I absolutely love summer mushrooms!

Matt, live in the St Cloud area, and it's been dry the last month and not exactly a great chant hotbed. After seeing all the pretty pics though, Jr. and I had to hike up our skirts and headed beyond our easily accessible upland spots and hit up some lower land deeper in the woods. Not a huge haul, but coupled with what we got last week, and leaving more small ones to pick in the upcoming week, will be able to put some aside for the winter months.....

I scouted an area today, and checked 2 new areas as I have a guest coming this Friday for a fun pick and fish. Found lots of stuff out there, and more than enough chants. The last week has been great, with lots of species showing their beautiful faces... some pics...

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
