pikerliker
I have a question regarding trolling speed. I know that sometimes getting the speed right is the key to catching fish. My question is do you have a set speed that you usually start out with before you start adjusting faster or slower? Or do you change that starting speed each time out? tunrevir
Trolling speed is going to vary by the presentation that you are working from the .5 to 1 mph for live bait rigging to up to 3-4 mph for speed trolling. Generally for walleyes when trolling cranks I will work the 1.5-2.5 range. A general rule of thumb, slow when the water is cold and faster when the water is warm. A quick way to find out what speed the fish prefer is to perform S turns while trolling and see if the baits are hit on the outside as they speed up or on the inside when they practically stall. This can clue you in as to the speed preference of the fish.Tunrevir~
