Ram Mount for humminbird 859

Dragonsm

Question

Looking to mount a humminbird 859 with a ram mount.

When I picked the unit up last weekend at Cabelas, the sales associate handed me the mount that normally runs around $60.00 and said normally guys use the $125 mount but that I could get away with the 60 dollar mount (I remember "111" in the part #).

Didn't think much of it, however I did stroll over a bit later and looked at all the mounts and to grab a lakemaster chip...noticed they were out of the larger mount. This will be mounted on a Crestliner Superhawk 1700 with walk through.

Thoughts?

There are basically 3 sized balls for the ram mounts. 1", 1.5" and 2". All of mine are 1" and I have HDS units up to the 7 inch size. There are times I wish I had the bigger size because I have noticed that while trailering or pounding on the water the bigger GPS will move a bit, while the 5" one is rock solid.

The other thing I am considering is getting a RAM swing arm mount for the console. I have a walk thru boat as well and I would put this at the helm instead of the RAM mount I use currently.

The specific mount is the "RAM Horizontal swing arm" (they have a vertical one too if that fits your install better). This would be rock sold for pretty much any size model GPS unit, but I am worried about adjust-ability.

Search online you will find them far cheaper than a local retailer.
