Looking at new Lowrance

Looking for some input on a new graph/gps I'm looking at. The Lowrance® Elite-4 HDI Sonar with DownScan 83/200 Transducer Combo. Looks like a real nice unit for the money, plus Lowrance is offering free lake map software right now. Here is the unit I'm looking at.

what are you wanting to know? Yes, i agree for the money- it looks like a fine unit. Though I think if you can afford it, you would like a larger screen better. what are you putting it on?

I have a 16' jon boat. Currently I have an old Eagle Cuda 250/GPS that has no mapping, just plotting. I am just curious if anyone has one yet and what they think of it. The screen on the new one is bigger than the one I currently have and also color vs B&W.

Sorry Del, I didn't know how much traffic the boat and motor forum got and we don't have an electronics forum. That is why I posted it in both places.

mn50- I think its fine that you posted in both forums.. as stated you may get more feedback.. I dont have that unit, but from what you have stated, I think it will work fine for you! Maybe at some point this summer, dig this post up again and post a small review so that others who may be looking at this unit will have something to go on.

A buddy has the Elite 4, but not the HDI. He uses it on his snowmobile for navigation when ice fishing, kayak in the summer etc. It has worked really well for him in those applications. He has other units he uses in his boat so I dont know that he has used it much in there.

The Elite 4 HDIs have been extremely popular in my experience, and I think the value you get is fantastic. The larger screen and the down imaging really give it a leg up over the the old Elite 4s, and the Humminbird 300 series units. I plan on getting one and adapting it to a portable unit for my Canada trips.

Go to your favorite web site and check the price. One site supports FM, some others let you dodge sales tax.
