LARRYBIRD

Headed up to Arnesens this weekend 3/27-3/30. Any hot lures I need to pick up this year before heading out to the sleeper for the weekend? Any help is greatly appreciated....Also, curious to know if the Perch bite has picked up at all in the last couple weeks?

Might want to check out the LOW forum for more info, but was up at arenesons last week and the best by far presentation was a hook or tungsten jig. It is not glamorous just sitting there staring at the set lines, but it at least caught fish. Every day can be different so bring up your box and see what works. As far as the perch, there were a few flurries, nothing to write home about, but the houses are not " on the reefs" either. Bottom thumping with a chain dropper was very effective when I knew they were there, but hard to know when they were there, and movement usually spooked the saugers. Did get some walleye near dark jigging. Best lure for them was a green pimple, but thats what was on when the first one bit, and not into changing what is not broken. Might want to pack some rubber boots, know of more than a few houses there that were completely surrounded by slush.....ours included....could not step a foot away from the house without busting through nor could step in the troughs to help land a fish. Overall action was decent , but a lot of small fish. Think this shot was from our first day....we had to fish hard for these though.........Good luck!

Thanks for the note....I realized my mistake and posted in the LOW forum as well. Saturday is looking like we could hit 40 up there so it's gonna be a sloppy mess I'm sure. We've got a group of 4 headed up and we'll fish hard hopefully I can post some pics as well.

The age old axiom proves true for LOW: Bring any color...as long as it's gold smile .

I was up at LOW only 2x this year, and gold far outproduced any other color. Not sayin' you can't catch fish on other colors (we did), but gold (or gold/glo-red combo) were far the best producers. Eary in the season jigging outproduced dead sticking, but 2 weekends ago dead sticking outproduced jigging. Horizontal jigs saw more action than vertical (tear drop) jigs. Plain hooks picked up nothing. Nada. Weird.

After many years going to LOW with WAY too many lures, I finally pulled all my gold lures out and put them in a kit marked LOW. It's always good to bring a few other color options, but for my crew gold has been the ticket.

Many good (and well stocked) options are available at the bait/tackle shops near the lake.

Good luck!

Thanks Del. I'm sure I'll start and end with gold, but I like asking the question because it seems like every year there is a new hot lure that everyone swears by. I haven't really seen anyone ranting and raving this year about any particular presentation. Thanks again!

I fish a lot in the Arnesen's area and lately the best bite during the day has been the smallest presentation, either a bare pink or red hook w. live minnow or a small almost crappie size hook (color didn't seem to matter, but I'm partial to gold on LOW). In the earlier morning and late afternoon (2:00 and on) a red and pink buckshot or Rattelin Flyer has been the ticket. They have been leaving the bigger rattling jigs alone during the day, but when they decide it is time it seems to be almost all they want.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
