Smallies in lakes?

Last night while panfishing Buffalo I got a really nice smallie - then none. In The Missy I've noticed smallies school up. Do they behave differently in a lake?

They school in lakes to. Mille Lacs as a prime example. If you catch one more are around. However, there's always the exception.
