Looking for shorthair lab

I've been looking for about a year now to replace my last good buddy which was a shorthair / lab mix but have not found any similar. I've strongly considered either a pure lab or shorthair but both have drawbacks for me. The mix seems to be the right fit. I'd like the pup to have the body structure and hair of the shorthair but temperment and faithfulness of the lab. Color does not matter to me. Any leads would be appreciated.

"Mix seems to be a right fit"

Sure, if you know that's exactly what you're going to get. Crossing breeds, especially retrievers and pointers, is a complete shot in the dark. You have no idea what the dogs are going to turn into. There's a good chance it won't excel at any one thing since all the careful traits that have been groomed for generations are suddenly jumbled together and muted by competing attributes.

Pick one: a lab or a GSP, and find a reputable breeder. You'll be much more satisfied with the results, in the end.

Are you definitely stuck on a lab, shorthair or a cross? I know of a guy who bought a lab/shorthair cross from a breeder in SD. I don't know where in SD or the name of the breeder but it sounds like it's common practice for this guy. They're not cheap either.

Have you considered a Wirehair? They'll give you everything a shorthair does with the desire to please like a lab.
