First time bike

Well, not first, but first in a long time. I found a 2005 Trek 6500 for $400.

Couple questions:

Is this a reasonable price

What should I look for if I go check it out?

Any other random tips?

Looks like it was about $750 new, so a 9 year old bike for half of new needs to be in pretty good shape. And you want a mountain bike, right?

And one last thought, make sure it is the right size for you. Do you know what size frame you need?

I looked into all this a little more and passed on that one. It's a 20" frame, I'm about 5'10" so that's a little big for me.

I would mostly be light trail riding up north and around town. Nothing crazy. I did make a list of wants and might just head over to a bike shop during lunch one day or something to talk to someone knowledgeable.

Wants:

29" wheels

Front suspension only

Disc brakes

~$500

I know, I'm asking a lot for not a lot of $$.

You might consider stopping at REI in Roseville. right near Rosedale (on west)

And they are a co-op so you get money back at end of year.

I wound up going to free wheel bikes in Minneapolis. I got a 2013Trek Wahoo with everything I wanted for $500 it was on clearance, so. Thats the only reason I met my budget. I took it out for a 6.5mi ride today and so far so good, execpt for me being out of shape.
