Ufatz
Did you fellas happen to see the little segment on one of the networks last night about ice boats? They seemed to think it was a quaint and long forgotten way to get around on ice in winter. It IS true racing has passed it's heyday, but as old time Minnesotans know, there are still some ice boats sitting around in barns, garages and marinas.Seems to me I saw ice boats ripping up and down Pelican Lake near Ashby MN a few years back. If you have not seen those babies screaming across the ice on a bright sunny day you have missed a thrill. Frankly, being abooard one of those things would scare help out of me!! But it DOES look like fun!
Bob Hicks
The last time I saw one of those was in the late 1970's and it was SCREAMING across Crystal Lake near Frankfort, MI. Those things can almost fly.
38bill
I have a smaller, one man ice boat but with all the snow we get I don't get many chances to sail it. I'm hoping this spring the snow will melt off and we will still have enough ice to get out. There is actually a big following that travels all over the USA to find clean ice. Lake Minnetonka here in MN is home to a lot of ice boats.
Tom7227
White Bear and Bald Eagle also have a decent number of ice boaters. If the snow melts fast they could have a week or so of decent conditions given the ice thickness this year.
