color preserver issue

Recommended Posts

I used carsons crystal clear color preserver on a wrap i finished on a stc wts blue blank. On the second coat some of the blue blead through. Anyone have this happen before? Thoughts on if/how i could get the color out? Or what i could do differently next time?

Normally CP is what locks the color of the top thread and keeps the under colors from bleeding through.

I am not familiar with Carsons CP at all and not sure what it works like. It could be the coat was too wet.

The color is most likely locked in. Maybe try putting on a little less at at time.

Im guessing too much as well. But the funny thing is that the bleeding was all along one side of the blank and it wasnt the side that was down. I spoke w the rod builder that taught me and he is thinking that its a too strong and to try another cp. I cut off the guides, but the st johns cross wrap is staying. Its not horrible, im just picky.

But i will try to do thinner coats.

Cason's preserver is a solvent color preserver and a heavy finish as others have mentioned could have softened the finish on the blank. Based on their suggested application instructions I'd try a different product. Dipping a brush with acetone and touching the preserver on a wrap sounds like recipe for problems. Good luck if you re-wrap.
