Senkos vs. Chompers and tiki sticks

kt

Recommended Posts

I tried the gycb senkos last year and had a lot of success. Even though they aren't very durable, they sure can catch fish. This winter i purchased some of chompers salty sinkers and wave tiki sticks. Has anyone tried either of these brands? How do they rate against the senko? Do their actions and fall rights differ from the senko? I see that the tiki sticks have been popular on the B.A.S.S tour. Just looking for some insight and opinions.

thanks,
kt

I would have to agree with the success of the chomper tubes. Man do they stink though. Had them in my dorm room last year and my roomate almost killed me. Never tried the tiki sticks, but they sure look like they would work.

thought i would let you know. i bought some of the new triple X plastics made by strike king. they are salt AND garlic flavored. ( yep i learned the hard way not to open a bag of chompers in the house!! took two hours to get the smell out of the house!) del

kt, I use Senkos almost exclusively- I say almost because I will use the chompers version when I want a slower fall. I have not tried the Tiki sticks yet, havent found them around here. I wouldnt mind finding one that had the action of the Senko with more durability. That one or two fish per bait gets expensive! Another thing is that chompers has a color called huckleberry that is positively killer, won 2 tourneys in a row throwing that color, and gycb dosent have anything like it. Cost wise though all 3 of those brands are about the same 5-6 bucks a bag, so the only way to save is if they last for more fish. IMHO though when money is on the line go with the Senkos, nothing beats their action. See Ya , Dan

A skip a Whacky rigged OutKast Stick Worm (Senko like bait) (5 inch version) under docks quite often. I rig it on a 1/0 Owner Riggin Hook with 14lb. Fireline. I will also skip a Texas rigged 4" Stick Worm too, the 4" version tends to skip better texas rigged (weightless) with a 2/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook. I will also use 14lb. Fireline on this set-up. Here's a tip, the night before you head out fishing, take a bottle of Powerbait Bass scent and put a squirt of it in the bag and let it soak in overnight.

I think that one of the reasons that these baits are so productive is that, like a tube, they are very versitle baits. You can fish them with just about every rig known to bass fishermen, and they work so well in just about every fishing condition.

Like Ross was saying, I too like to skip them uder docks rigged weightless either Texas rigged or wacky rigged. They skip a real long ways and have a slow drop, two of the most important features I look for in a dock bait.

Other than using them for docks, Senko type baits work real well on Carolina rigs, drop-shots, Texas rigged with or without weights, wacky rigged, the uses are just about endless.

Hawg Caller also makes a nice Senko type bait called the Tease-O. It is pretty durable and really works well.
