huntercj
I looking for feed back on alumalite fishouse. I have a cabin at morson ontario looking for a warmer option then my flip over. Mainly wondering how hard they pull off trail. I am looking at 8x12 or a 6x12 i am planing on ordering new polaris widetrack to pull it. I do have a 900 xp ranger i could install tracks if that would be better to pull it with. Any info on alumalite fishouses would be great thanks. Transporter
I have pulled the alumalite with my bearcat and honestly, I found it to be little more than a fully loaded otter lodge. Granted, I went no more than 20-25mph, but once you are moving it was really no load at all. If I go any faster it is just harder on everything in the house and I would spend more time lashing everything down than I would save speeding up. I have another friend that pulls his with a tundra and has no problem either. We are pulling these things into remote lakes, sometimes breaking trail and across lakes that seldom have any other tracks on them. They are super warm and really light and stay on top of the snow if you can resist fitting them out like a lakehome. I think you would be much happier with the 6x12, especially coming from a flipover.
huntercj
Thanks i figured a widetrack should able to pull it with out to much trouble. Just cant decide on size i have two kids so i am leaning towards 8x12. I plan on leaving it bare bones on inside.
traveler
I Guess you're talking about their skid houses...I have one of their wheelhouses (don't know if he's still making those or not) and it's worked out well for me. I saw all the skid houses last time I was by there and they look very well constructed...and light. I would assume they would pull pretty easily. huntercj
Yes i am talking about their skid houses. I need something i can pull behind snowmobile no ice roads up there. I will keep my otter for longer trout trips.
bak2MN
I bought a ridgeline 8x10 skid house and thought I could pull it with my 500 sportsman or 800 Summit. NOT. The aluminum skids do not slide worth a carp I am going to have to put some plastic runners on the skids in order to pull it. Never had it on the lake this year!! Northlander
Great houses. Jay and Chris will take good care of you. They are super light and warm. BD110 has one I will let him chime in when he sees this.
Cliff Wagenbach
Great houses. Jay and Chris will take good care of you. They are super light and warm. BD110 has one I will let him chime in when he sees this. I looked at a couple of them that were in use and really liked them! They pulled them out easily on about 2 feet of snow with a snowmobile. They also come with plastic on the skis so that they slide easier and do not ice up in slush. They look very well built! I almost bought one myself but I already own 3 wheel houses, 3 otters, and a couple of pop-up houses! Cliff

Rick G
I got to see one this last weekend. I watched the guy grab the tow hitch and pull it 20 ft by hand He said it weighed between 3-4 hundred lbs. I was impressed to say the least He said the only down fall is that on glare ice the wind likes to push it around. I want one
huntercj
Thats pretty impressive to move by hand. Not to woried about bare ice. The only time we see that up there is spring time and usally warm enough fish outside. Just wondering would a big buddy heater heat a 6x12. Or should i look at a vented option? Thanks for all the info.
riverview
after fishing for too many years in a otter I bought a 6x10 v front and my buddy got the 6x12v door in the side and 2 windows. very nice house we did put the umhw plastic on the skis. my ski doo skandic wt pulled it with ease through deep snow. one thing I have noticed that you have to be careful on drifts or ditches with the full length ridged skis you can drop the front end very hard off drifts or hills I have watched mine come down over 4 feet hand hit hard with no damage. right now I am pulling mine with my Suzuki samurai. don't even notice it is there. early this year we had deep drifted hard snow and with ice I was getting stuck (with or without the house) I have a 8 foot rope attached to the back when I got stuck I unhooked from the front and hook onto the back and pull it that way until I got stuck again then I hook onto the front. I cant believe how well the house floats up. I am impressed with the ceiling height. I did install a 1x4 cedar boards 3 feet up and 2 on the ceiling. My 2 lights were just screwed into the foam now they are attached to the 1x4. I put a vented gas heater I go through a 20 pounder about every 4 days (mostly below zero temps)

Thanks for all the info. With out a doubt. I use a big buddy to heat my 8x16 IC when I don't have a battery charged and am to lazy to lug the generator. Gets it hotter than hell even well below zero out.
