I'm thinking about joining MBRB this year. I have already have completed the online Bowhunters course. I looked at there site but it doesn't anwser a couple quetions I have. 1. Are ground blinds allowed? If not can tree stands be left in place during the duration of the hunt? 2. I have a permanent leg injury. So will I be able to have a friend help me with set up and take down of a tree stand? I can do it myself but it would take twice as long. Which goes back to the 1st question about leaving stands in place. 3. Would a friend be able to help with removal of a deer from the woods. If I was able to harvest one.

Every hunt is a bit different in the rules that need to be followed. Many require tree stand use. Most let you keep your stand in place.

You probably won't be able to bring a friend along to help you, but they will certainly let someone from that hunt help. Just make sure they are aware of your limitations before you show up for the hunt.

Walleyecheeks - I can't speak officially for MBRB, but I have been a hunter for them for 7 of the last 8 years and I assist with coordination of one of the hunts.

Each hunt has different rules because the local entity sets the guidelines for the hunt, whether its a city, county of regional park system.

That being said, MBRB aims to be inclusive and is usually willing to accommodate those with physical limitations. Ground blinds have been allowed by exceptions as well as crossbows for those who have permits.

As far as help with stand hanging and animal harvest, each hunt has at least 1 coordinator who's main job is to make sure the hunters get the help they need to be successful. Coordinators work first, hunt second. Outside of the coordinators, it is always encouraged to help others. Its just like hunting with your buddies. Guys help eachother out and most are willing to help track and drag deer for everyone.

One thing that is never allowed is outside help. Only MBRB members drawn for that hunt are allowed to be at the hunt. Its an insurance and integrity issue. Even me as an MBRB member, I can't just show up to other hunts to help out. Only people with a permit for that hunt can be present. Everyone in the group knows this and that's why more people are willing to help each other out.

Id be happy to answer any more questions you have about MBRB.

Metro Bowhunters Resource Base. They get bowhunters into metro area parks, greenspaces, etc. You need Bowhunter Ed and need to pass a shooting proficiency test.

You can do a search for MBRB for more info.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
