Jiffy blades

I removed the claws right away as they were causing unnecessary binding. The idea was sound but in practice, I found just the center point doing the job better alone. Speaking to best operation I found a replacement chipper blade at the man store for about $25 that I rotate out with the original when I feel it is dulling. So yes I use the part#3539 as I own a 9" drill assm. Other sizes need the appropriate #,

I keep the spare sharp with this fixture---->

You can use a simple flat file, but this just works quicker and a few swipes later its ready to go. This item was also found at the man mall for cheaper than jiffy itself.

The main thing with jiffy models with chippers is not to worry about having the large blade precision ground to absolute sharpness. I have found that when it starts to "shake/ wobble" or slow down in "attack" the center point just needs a quick touch up and it will spin/ cut like a champ again.

Here's the guide for sharpening angle/ backclearance:

They stocked the STX set last year but they didn't get any this year. Got word from Jiffy today that I can use the single 3539 blade but it might not cut as good as the STX. For the cost difference I will give it a try. It's got to be better than my dull STX blades.
