Garmin GPSMap 62 replaced by GPSMap 64

MN Mike

Question

Keep your eyes open for closeouts on the Garmin GPSMap 62 series, it's been replaced by the 64 series now, good deal for the consumer! GPSMap 62's have a great reputation as a solid handheld, already saw some advertised for under $200

They've added a few new features to the 64, GLONASS, Wireless Connectivity to SmartPhones with email and text alerts, 1 year birdseye subscription and more

I think the 62 does not have an SD card. You need a 62s if you want a chip card.

Correct, the plain 62 has 1.7 GB of internal memory ( plenty for mapping downloads ), no SD / MicroSD card options ( all other 62's accept MicroSD cards ), they also lack a few other options like 3 axis compass, barometric sensor and wireless connectivity, that's what the S models have over and above what the 62 has.

The 64 will lack the extra fetures also, just like the 62 but it does come with MicroSD card capabilities.

I think you've covered it pretty well with the data you have downloaded. GPSFILEDEPOT is a good site for downloading maps if you didn't already know about it. I used it last year when I went on vacation.

I usually activate Birdseye when I go out west hunting.

Beyond that, it all depends on what you plan on using the GPS for, seems like someone has built a custom map for these things, the problem is finding it sometimes.
