So we just got back from our annual fishing trip yesterday. We went up to Red and fishing was pretty slow so we're already planning for next year. We've been to Red, LOTW and Mille lacs several times so we want something new. Where would you recommend we go? We want to stay in sleeper shacks, and its just 4 of us.

We have it down to three lakes: Leech, Winny, and Devils Lake. What would you guys do? We're more than willing to drive long distances so that doesnt bother me.

Devils has no night bite. I think the only one on the lake with sleepers is Perch Eyes Guides service. Woodland Resort has lodging fish house package for $95 per day a person if you stay in the motel and you can pay a little more today and get lodge rooms or cabins. I suggest looking at their HSOforum at the different options and going as early as you can in the year or go late.

My son and I went to Devil's two weeks ago (he is 10). we were too late to stay at Woodlands, but we drove out of woodland's each day. When I was looking at the time it would take to drive to URL or LOW, Devils Lake made sense. 4 lane major roads all the way to Devils Lake, we made it from Savage in 5:45. If Arby's in Fargo wouldn't have taken 15 minutes at the drive through, we would have made it in 5:30.

First time trip for both of us, we packed along our Otter Cabin and stayed at America's best travel inn, in Devils Lake for $60 a night. We got lucky with weather (no wind, no extreme cold, no snow). What I took away from being up there is that it is not like Mille Lacs in the way that there are no 6 car wide roads plowed out on the lake, Devils Lake is a small town, there is a Pizza Hut, McD's and a walmart, oh and Taco Johns.

Woodlands is a first class operation, when we asked questions, even though we weren't staying with them, they helped out as best they could. Unlike most lakes we have fished, joining the crowds was the was to get on fish, and at night, about 7 PM, it is a little eerie watching everyone drive off the lake because there is no night bite on that lake. the crowds we fished in and around were similar to what you would find on a metro lake, except this lake is huge. My buddies from college and I are trying to figure out a way to go next year, which would mean two trips for me next year....darn
