waligators
Anybody use a space heater in your fish house to help out with heat so the furnace doesn't have to run as often? I never have but would think it would work alright. They don't make much noise at all, are pretty small in size and don't take up much room. On the other hand its just another item to pack and take care of... MichaelnoX
live4chrome
They draw a lot of power but if you have agenerator going I don't see why not
Redlineracer12
I used to use one all the time back when I only had a 4000W generator. It will keep your house heated more uniformly and cut way back on the propane you go through, more gas though. Now that I have the 2000W inverter I don't use it much (still use the fan portion) because it really puts a load on the smaller generator. beer batter
After having to pack up the family, and leave in the middle of the night when it was -10 due to a furnace issue, I now keep a small milk house heater in the fish house. Typically have generator running anyway, so it's a good backup to have just in case.
BigDogRob
I had a guy I work with show me that he uses one. He has a 20' and says it is really great when its cold outside and keeps the tootsies toasty when playing cards or games in the back of the house. I went and purchased one at a big box store and tried it up on Red a couple weekends ago. I found that it did indeed help keep the floor way in back warmer, or at least enough to feel a difference back there when the furnace would kick out. I did notice it used a little more gas in the generator, but we were also using a crock-pot all day, and running a few other things while there. If you do use one get one that has a dual heat (750watt/1500 watt) if possible so that it don't overload the generator if you are running a few other items. JakeJ_Mn
I have a ceramic heater 750/1500 watt. I keep it just in case. I also have an extra Buddy heater in my storage. I do run my generator most of the time on the ice. I initially installed a Empire DV 215 Direct vent wall heater in the front my 8x20. It works great and I use fans to circulate the air. This fall I installed a Suburban 20000BTU furnace in the rear of my house, mostly to blow across the floor occasionally or after I drill my holes. My floor is insulated which makes a big difference. I never go out without some type of backup heat.
harvey lee
My furnace shoots the heat out the bottom of the front cabinets so it keep's the floor nice and warm, one could be in socks and still be warm.Yes, the floor is insulated.I do however also bring an extra elec heater along incase I have a furnace issue.Have the generator running so I just plug in the elec heater. The elec heater can heat the house pretty nice.It is a 1,500 watt ceramic heater. Wish it had 2 different settings instead of the 1 but I had this oone laying around so I use it.Work's great but I do use quite a bit more gas as I run a 2000 gen and the heater draws enough I cannot run on the econ mode.I have my Buddy along always as I typically have the portable with also. I do not mind running the Buddy during the day with a window cracked but it still scares me to run the Buddy at night. I have ran it sitting right next to the CO dectector and it has not set the alarm off but I am still concerned about CO issues with it running at night. BigDogRob
Harvey, disconnect the cylinders in front of the CO2 detector...
JeffS
I also use a 1500 watt heater. At around -10 outside I can get the ice house past 70 Fahrenheit and not use the propane furnace at all. This is in a 6.5 x 14 fish house. It does draw a lot of power from the generator.
