jbell1981
I was given an old Lowrance "Green Box" with what appears to be a boat style transducer. The guy that gave it to me said he used it for ice fishing but it would only give him the depth and not mark fish or his jig. Would this because of this transducer? I found someone that would sell a "can" style one made for ice fishing for this unit for $40 but don't want to spend that if there isn't going to be much improvement. It's the fish lo-k-tor lfp 300d if that makes any difference.
mojogunter
Maybe the reason it won't show fish is that it is an antique? I have a green box in the shed too that has been there since the 70's. For me it would be interesting to take it out and test it to see how well it would work now compared to the new units, but I wouldn't spend any money to do it though. You can find a older FL8 for $100 used. Let us know how it performs.
bturck
i may be wrong but i believe the old green box only had the electronics to read two points, top and bottom not jigs or fish in between. i had one also so many years i can't even remember that far back
IcePro
Green box can read fish and jigs. If it can detect fish in the open water not why ice.If you move the transducer around you will get the readings you need. The problem is the transducer. It needs to be perfectly vertical so it is shooting straight down.Even the first units built for ice fishing had problems unless you air tuned the transducer and put a bubble level on them. expl
It should work fine,I ran one on a old lowrance flasher,as they had the same plug in,I just fashioned my own float for it out of some pipe insulation, worked great till my cable ended up breaking rite where it enters the top of the transducer without enough wire to repair it.if i can find another transducer like your speaking of id still use the old lowrance from time to time. borg0196
I have a fish-lo-kator, aka green box, it does read the jigs and fish when they are present. It does not have any kind of rejector, so can't really use it by someone else with a flasher. You should play with the gain on it until you can see your jigs.
