barehooks_jr
What lubricant/grease do you use for your wheelhouse pivot points? This past week/weekend while fishing URL, I was having issues getting my house to go down. I had no problem cranking it back up. Found a guy on Wednesday to use a high powered torch to help melt the ice on the pivot points thinking that this was the problem, but that was only a temporary fix (once we got back out on the ice, I couldn't get the house to go down without a little help…at least we caught fish ). Any help would be appreciated. Hoping to be able to get the house in a heated garage tomorrow afternoon through Sunday to melt any remaining ice and get this thing back in working order. Thanks in advance.
JakeJ_Mn
A good synthetic marine grease works for me. My hub axels have channel grooves to spread the grease. I grease mine every up and every down. On the rest of my pins, cables, and winches I use spray white lithium grease. The same applies - every up and every down. I also made covers for my winches out of marine canvas. Helps keep the road salt off. For my bearings - I have Bearing buddies and grease before every trip. slurpie
Any grease is better than none. Just pick a grease and use it you have no bearings or bushings to wear out and there will not be any heat build up.
vman11
Depending on the hub design, it might not be a bad idea to pull off the assemblies and clean the spindle every off season. My old ice castle had a hub that locked up. I greased them often but the road grime and salt are hard on them. After that happened I made it an annual PM task and cleaned them up each spring. randerson
When you get off the lake check your frame where your pivot point is welded Ia friends IC frame tore where the pivots where welded, my guess is it happened when we had to force it down on LOTW once by cranking up and freespooling down over and over again because it wasnt greased
barehooks_jr
Thanks everyone for the replies. I was able to get it into a heated garage yesterday afternoon and plan on working on it this afternoon. If anything else comes up, you will be hearing from me!
