Letting it sit won't work anymore. City's no longer just use chlorine they use chloramine and that won't evaporate out of the water. If you go to an aquarium store you can pick up dechlorinator and an air pump to keep your minnows fresh for days.

I've never let it sit out. Dump out, fill up, add a few snowballs and repeat every 3 days or so. I've been good on these for 3 weeks on these.

Yep, I have creek chubs alive all winter that way just have to remember to keep a cover on the container with those creek chubs as they will commit suicide by jumping out.
