Registering a Snowmobile

I picked up a junker sled this last summer for $100. It's a 1987 so it's eligible for collector tags. It didn't come with any registration info and It's been at least 5 years since it's been on any trail. The guy I got it from said he didn't get any registration info when he bought it either so I can't go back to him for any info. Does anyone know how this works? Can I get it registered again? I'm confident it isn't hot.

After some more googling I found my answer. I don't need a title card to register it.

My next question: There are 2 types of collector registrations. One that allows up to 10 days of personal use and parade/event use that only requires a one time fee. The second is an unlimited collector registration and requires an annual trail sticker. I only plan on using the sled 1 week out of the year on an annual fishing trip. Can I complete the limited use registration and use it on state trails to the lake? The rules/regs aren't that clear.

The simple answer is, NO, you may NOT operate the snowmobile on any state or grant-in-aid trail without a trail pass. Also, any use as a collector snowmobile is limited to official events on any state or grant-in-aid trail. Another thing that people don't know much about is that a snowmobile must be currently licensed for any transport (whether under its own power or on a trailer or by any other means). Here are a couple links from MnDNR:

Also, I'm pretty sure the last toy that I tried to Register without the current card. They looked up who the last owner was and made me track them down and have them write up something signed and dated that they sold it to me. The real issue I had is that it was two owners from the person I bought it from. Maybe that will not be the case but be ready for it! frown
