Eagle Claw Inline

Received two of these reels as gifts, during spooling one of them locked up and does not free spool nor can I crank the handle. I took it apart and put it back together hoping that would help, however I did not remove the lh/rh bearing, still doesnt work, the spool feels like it is rubbing on an interior part of the reel when I turn it by hand and the crank handle doesn't move at all, any help would be appreciated, And I haven't tried spooling the other reel, I don't want to ruin it if I've done something incorrectly... I have spooled many other inline reels in my time but never a plastic(?)reel like this.. Thanks... cry

You apparently know how to get the spool off the real, was the ring threaded onto the spool tight and the odd shaped washer under it in the formed fitted slot on the back side of the spool? This should all come off the shaft together with the spool, under that ring is bearing then a nylon spacer, another bearing then another spacer the odd shaped washer in the correct place then the ring threaded on tight. That washer has teeth on the inside that engage with the gears on the interior of the reel turning the spool. If the free spool button still won't work then there is something in the crank and drag out of place. Haven't had to take that apart. I also have two of these reels and that ring on the back side on each was loose at purchase and caused similar problems for me after I got them home and played with them some more, now work like a dream.

Yup, same thing, loose retainer, but everything beneath it was in order (I think), I even took out the plastic cover on the crank mechanism side, it felt like the spool was rubbing against it so I took it out and re-attached it but no luck... I wasn't sure how or if I should dis-assemble the crank without having a part assembly list.. I'll try that too though before I contact them... I'm thinking something isn't engaging properly..I don't know why they don't include an assembly parts list like everyone else....life would be easy then... Thanks

I like these reels but yesterday I ran into a problem: the drag is not working...no matter how tightly it is set. I can easily pull line off the reel, but it comes off in "clunks" not smoothly. difficult to describe, but it feels like something is wrong with the bearings or ?

Anyone else had this problem? I took it apart and everything looks ok to me, but when re-assembled, I still get an un-smooth drag with no resistance.

Fishinfools, if that retainer washer isn't in the correct place, in it's form fitted grooves, under the ring and ring tight the retainer will spin between the ring and spool and give the clunking feel and the spool spins freely because nothing is retaining it.

Camozcool check the free spool drag, the small knob with the flat bar on it that controls how fast the spool will drop line when on free spool, if cranked down too tight the carbon tip of the drag presses hard against the back of the spool preventing it from turning freely.

Hey Thanks but I tried that.., its like the spindle or bearing holding the spool is jammed in causing the spool to hold too close to the crank side inner workings cover, tries loosing the cover cap of the spool but that didn't work, I have yet to take apart the crank handle... it started this when I spooled up, it just sort of slowly jammed, Im thinking something plastic or rubber gave out... maybe a drag problem.. I contacted them and they said to send it in and they would fix or replace it and nothing more...Thanks and Happy Angling...

Fishinfools I had the same problem what I did to get mine to work was, I removed the spool and made sure the retainer on the inside of the spool was tight. After that I removed the internal cover. After that I loosen the 2 screws that are attached to the piece of metal that moves the gear out. I loosened both of them about a 1/2 turn apiece. I then replaced the cover making sure it seated in the correct position then put the spooler back together and it worked like a champ.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
