Marcum LX3 problem

calli4120

Question

I have an older Marcum LX-3 (pre true color display) that I bought new about 5 years ago. Unfortunately I dont get out nearly as much as I would like so it probabaly has less then 150 hours of ice time in those 5 years.

My first trip out this year in early december I had no trouble with it. The second time out I had to have my gain maxed out and still had trouble seeing my bait which was on a medium sized jigging spoon. I figured that it may be the battery since i had not charged it between trips.

I let the battery charge and tried using it again yesterday with the same results. My brother had an extra battery with so I hooked that up and there was no difference. In frustration I put the flasher away and just bobber fished the rest of the trip.

Has anyone experianced something like this with their Marcums? Any idea what the issue may be? Should I try the transducer? Should I sell it and buy something else?

I appriciate any input!

Yes. But sometimes that can yield inaccurate results until there is a load applied to the battery. If you have a batteries plus or something nearby take them in and have them tested. They should have more than 12 volts but when a load is applied it could drop fast.

I bought a new battery from the fleet and farm store and same issue.

On my way to work this morning I dropped the flasher off at Marcum and will be able to pick it up around lunch time.

Thanks again for all the input

I picked the flasher back up Friday afternoon. They gentleman that helped my wasnt the one that did the work so he didnt phone specifics on my repair. The paperwork that I got just started that they replaced an electrical component which should be anything.

I did get a chance to use it this weekedn before the intense cold and its working as good as ever now. One thing that is noticeable is the transducer ticking sound. When the flasher wasnt working correctly you could hear it but it was faint. Now after the repair you can really hear it.

Thanks again to everyone that posted!
