Who uses wire for dipseys

Recommended Posts

Actually I use a standard Shimano TDR rod and have never run into any problems with running wire. You can go to a twilli tip if you feel more comfortable.

Wire is a great way to get your baits down when running Deeper Divers. I can run a 124 size Deeper diver back 160' and will get the bait down over 80'

I'd rather do what you're doing as opposed to buying an expensive roller rod or messing with the tip. Do you use the 7 strand or 19 strand and do you use the nylon coated?

Right now I am running the 19strand Torpedo wire and have not had any issues. I have heard of people breaking a few strands and then having to respool the entire reel, but Knock on wood I have been ok.

If you are concerned about the guides then I would remove the tip top and replace it with an all stainless one. I have not found any issues with the guides wearing yet. However, I have found that you will get some curling of the wire as it runs over the tip top. This shows up at the end of the line where your connection is. I just cut off 5' every now and again to make sure things are up to snuff..

I have a Daiwa heartland with twilli tip set up on my wire dipsey setup. Has performed well for me over the past two years. Was the setup recommended to me by guys who know a lot more about it than I do.

Is it possible to buy a rod with a twilli tip already on?
