Esox_Magnum
Anyone tried the Suffix Ice Magic line? What are your thoughts on it?
Eric_Kruger
i like it, seems to stay alot more subtle for me than the other mono i have tried. i use the 2lb for panfish, 4lb for eyes.
DTro
Yep, tried it once, and it went in the garbage.I love Sufix braid, but I found the mono to be not good at all. Quite possible I had a bad spool, but I never tried it a second time.
Esox_Magnum
I love their braids and also have some 8# mono I like never tried their ice line though, seems strong but seems like most times I switch line brands for mono I'm dissapointed and always end up back with Trilene... Twins Guy
I have used the 2 and 3# varieties the last couple winters. Last weekend I caught about 100 crappies (up to 12") on the 2# suffix without retying (palomar knot)-finally did break one off but its my fault at that point. I've also tried pline but hate their square spool.
Esox_Magnum
Guess I'll spool it up and give it a shot worst case I end up respooling...
Invader440
Have tried it and like it so far. Didn't seem to ice up as much as the Trilene cold weather I had on last year.
Northlander
The Suffix Ice line is all I use in the winter.
Chad Holst
Our guides use only Suffix on the ice. The only time we use anything else is if we cat fishing then whatever braid we have tied on gets used. I believe all of my braid is fireline ice braid, Aaron uses very little braid but has suffix braid also, i believe. The suffix ice has had much less recoil and fraying than the other lines we have tried, and i dont think there are more than 2-3 on the market we have not used at one point or another. The biggest factor is using the correct line weight. You dont need more than 2 pound line unless your fishing walleyes/cats/pike/etc.. And then 4 pound will work for almost everything else. Often we see guys say they dont like XXX or YYY line, but they have 8lb or larger line on. I dont care what brand of line you use, if your trying to catch pan fish on 6-8-10 lb line, it isnt gonna turn out so well for you on the ice. Lower your line weight and loosen your drag a bit. Esox_Magnum
I'm a light line junkie, even snagging carp in the spring I use a ML action rod with 6# mono, none of my ice rods have over 6# on them and those are my walleye set ups my perch/panfish set ups are all 1-3#... I'll spool it up and give it a run, it was free so not out anything....
Fred3
Agreed! I still know quite a few that having nothing less than 8lb mono on whatever rod they ar fishing with. And no use trying to tell some of them any different because they have been fishing like that since they started fishing and see no reason to switch. I will sometimes use 4lb with 1lb diameter when fishing Panfish If there is alot of Northerns in that particular lake but usually use 2lb test.
