Rouney725110
I don't personally own this reel but my uncle just bought one. He said he really likes it except that it doesn't have a line leveler on it. So I was just wondering if anyone else is concerned about this or if anyone has come up with a solution for it. Thanks!! Esox_Magnum
Shouldnt be a concern, I use regular baitcasters without a level wind and no problem
live4chrome
Levelers get iced up pretty quick. Avoid them at all costs when looking for a ice fishing level wind
castmaster
The spool is narrow enough I wouldnt be too concerned about the level wind. The thing that held me back from buying one is the fact of the small diameter spool. I use a Shimano Calcutta 50 baitcaster for fishing lakers and big eyes. The small diameter spool on that leaves some pretty good coils in the line, and the Teardrop reel has an even smaller spool diameter. Chad Holst
100% Agree on the tear drop. You do not want a leveler. Also, keep in mind, you probably are not putting out very much line anyway. In the summer we are casting yards and yards of line out, but on the ice, its usually such a small amount you are not going to ever see a need for a leveler. They are a magnet for ice build up.I think the small spool is a trade off. If you go any larger, then you run into a heavy bulky reel. I think the key is to use the right reel for the right situation. If your concern is line twist and line coils, then go with a large arbor reel like a betty or the beam fire on ice elite. The beam has a 2.1 to 1 gear ratio, large arbor and is smoother than anything you have ever spun. Dont get me wrong, the betty is still my go to for a large arbor, but it also doesnt cost $170 like the beam. For me, i use better line, to help reduce coil. It cant be avoided with these smaller spools, but it can be minimized to the point that it doesnt effect the fishing.
