jk_minn
I am upgrading from my JR 6 rod soft case to the hard otter rod case, due to the $$ i have invested into rods. Now I have lost the nice compartments the soft 6 rod case has to hold my tackle and gear. What tackle box do most people prefer for ice fishing? Soft vs. Hard. I do about 30% portable/70% wheelhouse.
CamozKool
I use Plano boxes and a canvas bag... still using a multi-rod soft case that fits inside any of the flip houses I happen to use...I also use florencent rod tubes cut to fit my rods inside the soft cases, and I usually take six rods with me.... MN BassFisher
I had a few small boxes that I would put in my Ice Armor flasher bag but I just recently bought the new Frabill Soft Tackle bag that comes with 4 Plano boxes inside of it and has external pockets. I really like the setup and it's treated me well so far this season. I'm going to purchase a 5th Plano Box to put inside there because it has the room for it. outkast7222
I use a small Plano box for Rapalas and the larger fly boxes for jigging spoons and jigs.
Chad Holst
I have went full circle on this issue. I started with a soft bag, with multiple plano boxes. I then got a fancy hard box, that i figured would be more secure for items like extra reels and other things i may want to bring along... and everywhere in between. I now have dialed in what works best for me and my style. I use several small boxes for each type of lure. And then keep them in duffle style bag. the bag has 3 large plano type boxes with terminal tackle, large lures, bobbers, slip knots etc. Then for my jigs/lures/hooks/spoons/plastics i use seperate smaller hard boxes for each type. for these small boxes i use alot of fly fishing type boxes. I like the metal boxes for plastics, as they are protected from heat and dont ruin the plastic the cheaper cases are made of. For jigs i use a "book style" with micros on the left and large stuff on the right : For Spoons i like the book style with a wall to stick them to in the middle so the trebles dont get tangled: Finally i use small compartment fly box for hooks of diffent sizes. these fly boxes are more expensive but they dont have the removable walls that tend to slip and allow things to get mixed up. I use a waterproof floating duffle bag, so if i need a good canoe trip tackle bag i dont lose my tackle to the botom of the lake, plus this one has a hard bottom so it doesnt beat up the things packed on the bottom. Also it tend to keep things from freezing as the material is pretty thick and takes the cold well. I have left my pop bottle inside the bag and forgot it in the car and the pop wasnt froze in the morning. A regular duffle would have been a mess and my tackle boxes would have been soaked in pop. Seal also makes a pretty good floating duffle. I know its not for everyone, but i like having everything organized and in its own little box. i hated having to pull out a large plano box with 50 different types of things in it, when i only needed my plastics or only my diamond jigs. Plus, as a benifit if im out running and gunning i can fit the small cases in my pockets and i dont need to haul around all the extra stuff i dont need. fishwater
I like to use a backpack, keeps the tackle containers from rattling around too much when hauling it around.
20lbSloughShark
The plano takedown shotgun case is the perfect rod case with a few cuts to the foam.
