Garmin Lake Chip

Recommended Posts

I have a Garmin Dakota GPS which I got for a gift and am considering getting the Garmin upper midwest Fishing guide chip. Any info on this would be great as I don't know how good it works. I have heard good things about lakemaster, but I guess that wont work in a garmin. My GPS isn't an expensive model, so was just looking for any info. I need help. Thanks.

I don't think you can find a upgrade chip for the H20 and even if you could, I think it would be behind whatever the latest data is.

Congratulations on having one of the H2O's that didn't take a huge dump on you after 2 years.

For the OP, I think the garmin chip uses the same data as Lakemaster did and that chip is the only thing available. So even if it isn't perfect, it's better than nothing. There is also some varying accuracy between lakes, so it's tough to make a blanket call on how good it works.

If you can find the GARMIN Lakemaster MicroSD cards anywhere, they still work in Garmin handhelds but your probably going to be money ahead buying the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide simply because of the amount of coverage on one single chip ( as compared to multiple Lakemaster cards ) and I can tell you the data on the Garmin UMWFG is the same as what I have found on the Lakemaster cards.

The UMWFG card comes with a SD adpater so it should work in any Nuvi's that took the full sized SD Card.

Make sure you have you Garmin up to date with the latest software and you'll be good to go.

i also have a garmin nuvi 255w .would my lakemaster chip work in it??i use both of them for geocaching and the h20 for fishing.

It has to be a Garmin branded Lakemaster chip, it won't work if it came from your Lowrance H2O.

I like mu UMFG chip paired with my Garmin 62S hand held. Haven't put in in my Nuvi 265WT as I don't like the battery life when not hooked up to power.

Also thinking about getting a Garmin fish finder and use the UMFG chip in that as well.

Garmin just released a whole new set of fish finders last month, they include Side Imaging and Down Imaging just like everyone else now with all the bells and whistles if that's what a person's looking for.

Can't wait to see them in person and check them out.

I have the Midwest data downloaded directly to my Colorado and love it. After having several Lakemaster chips for my Garmin, I found the Midwest data to be exactly the same as Lakemaster without ever having to switch out chips when I go to LOTW.

My only advice is to hook it up to your computer and download it directly to your unit permanently. Don't buy the chip.

It seems as though Garmin has purchased the Lakemaster data and made it their own. Since Lakemaster was purchased by the evil empire, they don't make chips for any other brand but Humminbird.

One thing with the download vs. the chip. The download is permanently tied to your GPS device, loose it or it dies and you'll spend another $100 for the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide, you cannot transfer to another device.

The MicroSD chip will interchange between Gamin Devices ie., Handhelds, NUVI's, Chartplotters and such.

I've found the data to be the same as my Lakemaster Woods / Rainy also, it's nice to have all that data on one card.

Long live the Colorado! I've got one and I really like it, don't know why they ever got rid of the rock n roll wheel.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
