Hunting Dog Eyes

Recommended Posts

I have a 10 month old springer that every time he gets home from being out in the field has very red eyes and usually some sort of yellow discharge the next morning. Wondering if any of you run into issues like this and are there any medications or ointments I can give him before or after the hunt to help out his eyes.

The dog is getting stuff in the eyes, probably pieces of grass etc. The discharge is the eyes trying to get the stuff out of the eyes. You need to flush the eyes with eye wash and get whatever is in there out.You may need to pull the eyelid out and opes to see where the problem is.

normal deal. She's getting debris in her eye from being a hunting dog. Normally the gunk washes out on its own (remember it's a dog, in the wild mother nature takes care of it). I'd suggest in only rare instances you'd need to get involved. I just wipe the thick goop off and the goop has the seed or other debris in it.
