I just put a set I made for my XT1200, which is the magnum sled. I know the width is 1". As far as depth, I think you can do whatever you want. I think the factory version is 5/8", but I used 1/2" and it looks like it will work just fine. As far as length, I cant remember exactly, but I think mine were 56" long. I made mine so they go to the end of the runner versus the factory version that is an inch or two short.

The primary reason is to protect the bottom of your sled. If you are only on good snow or ice it is not a big deal, but should you need to drag it across a dry road a few times, it can become a problem. A secondary benefit is it wlll track a bit better behind your atv or snowmobile, but I dont think it is all that noticable. It is pretty cheap insurance because it is pretty easy to replace the hyfax, compared to potentially ruining your tub.
