MN boat paper work

Can you guys from MN tell me what kind of paper work you have with your boats? Is there a title and a registration or is there just a title? I bought a boat from a salvage auction and I got the title for the boat but Iowa is saying I need a registration. The auction house is saying there is only a title, no registration.

Has anyone transferred a boat from MN to IA? Did you have any issues?

Thanks for your help..

MN boats over 16 feet have a title. The referred to registration maybe the card you receive when you get your registration numbers. Call the MN DNR and find out what sort of registration IA may be referring to. If you have the boat's registration license numbers you probably can get a card.

Ahh title issues, Iowa has the most rules I've seen for transferring.

I've never heard of a boat that was titled in MN but doesn't have a DMV registration card. What the auction house probably means is that it doesn't have current registration. The auction house owes you a registration card as I see it.

The other option is drive back to a MN DMV and transfer the boat into your name in MN. Will cost about $30 (you can do it without buying new tabs), you will get a new registration card and you can use your Iowa mailing address.

Yep! Iowa is a pain for boats!! I bought a ranger in Wisconsin this summer. Had all the papers; I thought!! They( the county) decided I needed a separate signed bill of sale for the TRAILER !! The signed receipt I had for the boat, motor, and trailer wasn't good enough. Had to send a form back to the guy, have him sign it. Then I could get a license for my trailer! UGH!!
