Golf ball skinning method

I tried it years ago and must have had either user error on my part or the hide was a bit frozen and it didn't work. I think if you do it correctly its as slick as cleaning a grouse by standing on the wings and pulling the feet. Added bonus your hands don't get tired.

Are you talking about tying a golf ball inside the hide and pulling with a rope? If so, it's a good way to rip a deer in half (talking from experience)

We hang them by their back legs, and can usually skin all of our deer within a couple hours. That's up to 30 deer for 2 or 3 people. And that's after they've been hanging for a week, so it's not as easy as it will be this year when we skin them each night.

Never had an issue and didnt loose a bit of meat when we did it, only small problem we had was the rope slipped off a few times then we switched to smaller rope and no problem after that

If the hide isn't frozen it's a nice set up if you have more than just a couple deer. If you only have a couple to do you can have them skinned out by the time it takes you to find a golf ball, rope, and winch/garden tractor.

I've found you have to hang them where you are going to butcher them, otherwise they get dirt on them from the ground.

Problem is, the garage rafters might not be strong enough to be pulling on them at an angle.

we actually cracked the rafters in one of our hunters' garage one year. Granted, I think that year we had 25 deer hanging. It cracked overnight, not while we were skinning!

i started using the golfball method a few yrs back, for me its one of the best things since sliced bread. lol

we lay a tarp dwn and strap the deer onto a tree trunk and use a small rock or block of wood and my truck or atv to pull the hide off. we had a few hides rip at 1st when we started using this method. but now we make cuts on the inside of the legs and that has seemed to help alot
