eagle_3464
What is used for the roof structure and sheeting on a 6-1/2ft wide before applying the rubber membrane? Is 2 x 4 on 16" centers adequate and what thickness for the sheeting? Ceiling will be spray foamed before interior finishing.
JakeJ_Mn
I have an 8' x 12' skid at LOTW. My roof is built with 2x3s on 16" centers with 5/8" osb covering. Make sure the temp is right and the roof is clean, before you roll on the glue. Start from one end and work it smooth to the other. 2 people work fine as the glue sets up fast. I left 4"s overhang and attached aluminum trim like they use on campers. Never had a problem with snow. When you screw the OSB down make sure no screws are sticking up. I countersunk all my roof screws.
Sea Hage
If you plan on using the house in the summer I would put white rubber on it,mine has black and in the winter it's nice but in the summer, forget it, it's a oven.
eagle_3464
No plans to use in the summer so I will be using the .045 black membrane from Menards. Isn't 5/8" sheeting bit overkill? Don't most residential houses use 1/2" sheeting on 24" rafter spacing? There will be no sheet edges unsupported so I was thinking 1/2" sheeting, or possibly even 3/8" since spray foam will add structural stiffness. Any other suggestions appreciated. jentz
!/2 inch sheathing on 24 centers requires plywood clips mid span,Thets cause the ply sags and moves, making it not solid and eventually leaking.Your 2x4 16 OC with 7/16s sheathing is bout the best you can go.For more strength block the rafters at the ply edge. That will really stiffen them up and give shear strength. jsr426hemi
I put up 2x6's 16" on center on a 8x22 very front. The middle 2 feet is level and from there I tapered the 2x6's down to 2x4's at the ends. I screwed and glued 3/8 plywood on top. Sunk the screws in and filled all the holes with wood filler and sanded smooth. I am 300 pounds and have no issues walking on the roof. I plan on putting the rubber roof on monday. I will lay it on the roof, roll half of it up. Roll on the glue, roll it back, roll other side and apply glue then roll that half back. From what I have read people suggest taking a broom to work the air bubbles out.
