F150 Seat Heat & Remote Start

Recommended Posts

On my 2011 F150 the seat heat is supposed to (and has since new) come on with the remote start.

The last few mornings when using the remote start the seat heat doesn't come on (could be that it isn't cold enough outside), but when I put the key in the ignition and turn it to the run position and hit the seat heat button, the lights indicating the seat heat is on will illuminate, but I don't hear the audible 'click' from the fuse box area, and the seat heat doesn't work. Everything else, including the passenger seat heat works fine.

If I start the truck the old fashioned way, the seat heat and everything works as it should.

Any ideas?

Is it the auto start that is part of the factory key fob, or is it a seperate fob with a ford emblem on it?

If its a seperate fob with a frd emblem on it is considered "after market" to a/the dealership.

The other thing that will help us is if the truck has heated seats OR climate controlled seates (heated and cooled.)

If its climate controll seates the TEDs (Thermal Electric Device) have filters for the devices (two for each seat) that require replacement periodicly, if they are not replaced the TED can overheat causing it to shut off early. i have also seen where the tes wiring conecter, because of heat, will melf the connector causing issues. Another note is the Teds can be monitored via a scan tool to see if they are operating correctly.

If the truck has Heated seats again the seat mat temp is monitored, if it gets too hot, or an electrical concern is detected it will turn off the heat. usually this sytem the heater mat that you sit on goes bad due to the flex of the seat cusion.

the third option is as Jeremy stated, it may be a auto-start issue.

It is part of the factory key fob (factory installed).

The seats are heated and cooled.

I'll have to check the TED filters. I haven't replaced those.

When you turn the heated/cooled seats you should hear the fans kick in when the system turns on. You can look under the seat and see one ted, it should blow air out the bottom and out the top through the seat. The air to the set cushion should be warm or cold and same for the one in the back rest.

If the fan is not coming on at all you may have a power issue, or module/ted issue.

I have run across one truck where the seat cushion's air passage ways were crushed due to the drivers butt causing the ted to overheat and shut off.
