Is it kaput?

Daughter has a Whirlpool wash machine that is about 1,000 years old. Simple rig. The agitator is frozen. The motor is good and when we took the motor off the agitator would not move. The coupling is fine, water still pumps out. I'm thinking it's toast and not worth repairing. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your time.

Can you pull the agitator out to see if a sock or something has gotten inside? Also, check for tis between the tubs. Is there a ring of grease spewn around under the machine? That would indicate a bad transmission. If the agitator just doesn't work, but isn't frozen, check the lid switch.

The coupling between the motor and the transmission went bad about 6 months ago and once it was replaced the unit worked OK. Given that and the age of the machine I was pretty sure it was the transmission. But Ang went ahead and bought a new one yesterday so it's a done deal. Thanks for the advice.
