Ferny
So far it has been slow for me but I have connected a few times. What a night and day difference between last year and this year for the amount of food in the woods. Tons of dogwood, hazelnuts, red berries, blue colored berries, alder catkins, and clover. I haven't noticed as many acorns as last year though. Still pretty leafy out there. I heard 5 tree flushes last weekend and I never saw one. I also noticed a lot of birds of prey in areas I haven't seen before. Good luck everyone. Ferny. cribbageboy
Hey Ferny. Where were you hunting at??? No need for specifics. Just curious as to how much foliage is still up in the Grand Rapids area.

Pinusbanksiana
Pretty sad day yesterday. I had a nice spot well off the beaten path where wheelers hadn't found for many years. Well, some guy pounded an atv path in and I saw 6 puff balls where he had ground pounded grouse on the old logging trails. These are the ones I saw, no telling how many more were in the edges of the trails in the thickets. I had been walking in there for years enjoying good hunting. Sad to cross it off my list now. Ferny
JackPine, They logged off my favorite walking trails a couple years ago. I was looking forward to hitting it hard when it grew back nice and thick. Sadly there is a well worn ATV trail going right around the gate now. The gate that says "Hunting walking path No motorized vehicles" Looks like there is a couple new cabins in the area. It forced me to find some new areas which is not always bad.Ferny. Pinusbanksiana
I know what you mean Ferny, but this area was huge with multiple age classes and minimal trails. Now it is brush hogged and full of trails for ATV's. Not sure if the county did the hogging or some random guy. This particular county has minimal grasp on their resources and poor leadership.
