JSK76
So I have Dish network at home and in the past a second setup for my fish house but got tiered of setting it up every time I moved so I gave up on it. Now I've been thinking if I got the sling box for my Dish I can watch tv on my phone just like I was at home. Since I have have unlimited data on my phone could I use the mini HDMI on my phone and put it on my 19" flat screen? Right now I have the old school droid x but looking to upgrade and I know some of the newer phones will mirror to the tv. Does this seem like it would work? And if so would the quality be any good on the 19" tv? Do you need to have 4g service on your phone to stream tv?
WalleyeChaser
In my experience 3G is pretty slugish to stream with. 4G works great watching youtube vids. Remember though, anything outside of the metro will not be on 4G. I would look in to an auto aligning dish of some kind instead. If your phone still works fine I would use the money saved on the dish!
JSK76
I was looking at the Verizon map and the local lakes I checked have 4G.
aanderud
It would look fine with a solid 4g signal. Unfortunately, I can say with at 99% confidence that as soon as you upgrade your phone to a 4g phone from that oldschool droid X, you're going to lose your unlimited data plan -- unless you buy an off contract or unlocked phone, but they run a solid 600 bucks usually. JSK76
If this would work I was going to either buy a used phone or new phone outright. Right now I never go over 1.8 G of data so if this wouldn't work I would just get rid of my unlimited and get back into a 2 year contract so I can get a phone for around 200.00. This is why I would like to know for sure if it will work to hook the phone to the tv.

The phones are made to hook to a TV with that HDMI port, and given the right signal they will look great doing so. Even if you buy a used phone, you may want to talk to VZW about whether they'll let you keep your unlimited data after activating the new (used) phone on a 4g plan. If not, you're going to be hosed. Now your streaming is going to put you WAY over that fresh new 2 gig limit. Depending how much you stream, I could see you hitting 10 gigs or more easily. If you figure you're going to be streaming at 1-2 Mbps, that's easily pushing 500 megs to 1 gigabyte per hour of video.
Hawg
why not just switch to Direct TV? It's super simple to aim.
WalleyeVision
When do you possibly have time to watch TV? Aren't you busy pulling in walleyes?

LakeDocktor
what did you need to use dishnetwork in your fish house. We are looking to go that way this winter Essentially, the same thing you have at home, if you already have an account. You will need a dish with a coax cable from your dish to your receiver. It seems rather simple, but there can be some factors or variables that complicate things. If you post your receiver model, that will determine the components that are compatible with that receiver.
