Frogs

When you want to fish frogs, where are you guys getting them? Catching or buying?

If buying, where?

I want to have a backup bait for when cut sucker isn't working.

Not too many places sell em'. Pretty much gotta go out with a bait bucket and find em'.

I typically pick a couple dozen fresh, half fill the bucket with water so they can't jump out while I carefully transfer them to cheap zip lock sandwich bags, and fresh freeze about 6 per bag. They work just fine thawed out, and I think sometimes even better then fresh, live frogs as I think they exude more "froggy" juices after they've been frozen and thawed.

It's been a pretty good year for leopard frogs. Late, cool, wet spring. Cooler than average summer. Lotsa frogs out there if you spend a few hours lookin'. Most river banks are crawling with em' right now.

Got out last night, frogs seemed to be the ticket.

I need to get a fish grip or something for better pics. These things are tough to handle in a canoe.

If you gently work your finger under their gills you can handle pretty big cats by simply lifting them up with the connection the gills make to the belly, right next to the pectoral fins.
