2003 f150 issue

Recommended Posts

I had a brand new tranny put on about a month ago, but they didn't replace the rear main seal. So we decided to try and do it ourselves. We droppped the tranny leaving it connected to the transfer case using two jacks. We then replaced the rear main seal. Then we put the tranny back and started it and it is making a god awful squeal and geisering tranny fluid out of the overflow. [PoorWordUsage]? any guesses guys.

We have also replaced the starter, thinking it may have been stuck in the plunged position.

Hard to say without hearing it, but maybe the torque converter came partially out of the pump in the transmission and its putting pressure on the flywheel causing it to rub?

That doesn't really explain the fluid situation though. Does it do it right away or did you run it for any length of time and does it go into gear normally?

Hopefully your tranny shop doesn't read this forum and seen you touched it. You may be testing the warranty out. I would guess converter alignment as well. This can wipe out the tranny's oil pump in a hurry. If you haven't driven it, you might have dodged a bullet.

As far as the overflow, maybe you kinked a cooler line?

I only ran it for about 10-15 seconds 3 times. Sounded bad each time. The tranny shop that did the work was a close friend, but I just wanted to fixed. I wasn't the one working on it. The guy who did the work just wanted me to ask you guys if you know anything. I think we're just gonna bite the bullet and bring it in. Any idea if the torque converter wasn't seated all the way and it caused damage how much it would cost? Thanks
