What minimum pound test?

I am planning to fish some 5-7oz lures on a rod made for 3-8oz lures (Heavy action 9' rod) and usually I only throw 2-4oz lures.

My question that I am needing help on is what pound test line should I plan to throw these 5-7oz lures on? Can I use 50# or 65#?

Do I need to plan to go to 80# for these size baits to minimize any potential of loss of a bait if a possible backlash happens?

Personally I wouldnt use any line under 65#. I use 100# powerpro on my rods. Have used as little as 65, but thats a thin diameter so I went to 80# and now have settled on 100#. Especially considering the size of the baits you are going to throw.

I also prefer a min of 80# but most mine run 100#....
