10,000 Casts
I just bought a 6.5x14 crank down house. It's on square tubing, 5 holes and the floor isn't insulated. Can I have some advice on the best way to insulate the floor? I think an easy thing to do might be to get 10 cans of Great Stuff super expanding foam and spray between the frame and then leave it exposed. I think that will take care of any water issues but not sure if it will insulate very well.Thoughts?
JSK76
I just insulated my house same size as your last fall and I used 1" foiled backed ridged foam. Not the most fun thing to do but we'll worth it. I used those nails with the round 1" plastic around them but took out the nails and used screws instead. I don't think you will get great stuff to stick upside down.Really made a big difference in how warm my feet stayed.
Hawg
It'll insulate great if it sticks. Like JSK said, it's hard upside down with nothing to hold it. Find a local spray foamer, you'll never regret it.
cribbageboy
Just built an 8x16 last fall. Spray foam is the way to go, but it'll be much tougher for you since yours is already built. We just flipped our frame upside down onto a flatbed trailer, but ya can't do that with a house on the frame. lol. Worst part was scratching it flush with a horse brush. Hole Hog
To spray foam, maybe try this. Attach a sheet of poly to a sheet of plywood, osb or whatever, then spray the poly with some kind of non stick spray (cooking spray?).Attach the sheet of plywood to the bottom of the frame,(non stick side up) Then spray the foam insulation from the inside of your shack through the holes. do this one section at a time. after foam is set, remove the bottom sheet of ply. and move on to the next section. This would also leave the exposed foam nice and flat or smooth.I will be trying this method to mine this week(just a raw frame though) as i just got my frame from miltona blacksmith.
