Engine squeak on 2005 Corolla

Recommended Posts

2005 Toyota Corolla with 54,000 miles. There is an engine squeak at idle that goes away at ~1600 rpms. I put a dowel on the alternator and AC and put it up to my ear and it didn't seem to be coming from them. How do I troubleshoot this? Tomorrow after work I will take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand to see if I can feel.

It sounds like the A/C / alternator belt is a bit loose. I know on my toyota sienna there is one belt that you can adjust.

Try to tighten up the belt first. There is a lock nut and and adjusting nut. loosen the lock nut (turn to the left) and then tighten adjusting nut to the right a few turns. Then re-tighten the lock nut.

I researched it last night and it sounds like a loose belt or bad belt. One serpentine belt for everything. The belt tensioners are known to go on these. It has a hydraulic piston rather than a spring but it does not appear to be leaking.
